Cut IT Costs With These Simple Tips

Oct 26, 2018 | Blog, Broadband, Fibre, Network, Phone Systems

There’s a nagging question every business must face at some point: How can I cut IT costs? For our 2-part series, we’ve laid out 5 quick and simple ways your business can cut down IT costs and make balancing a budget easy.

1. Take Inventory

The first step to cut IT costs is to assess your current IT system. Are you using all features you pay for? Need more? Less? Doing an inventory will help you “trim the fat” and reduce costs.

You may find systems and tools that can be removed… but you may also find gaps in your processes. Ask yourself how many manual workarounds go into filling these gaps and if investing in new tools could create efficiencies. Make sure your inventory gives you a complete, holistic look at your IT systems before you start making cuts!

2. Pool Your Resources

A cloud phone system lets companies pool resources between multiple locations. Traditionally, each company office needs one receptionist to transfer calls. With a cloud system, only one receptionist is needed to transfer calls for all office locations. Your admin team can be more productive with efficient phone policies, putting your labour costs to good use.

3. Do Your Research

Before signing any long-term contracts, do your research first. What do current customers say? What is the cancellation policy? Does it come with a service level agreement (SLA) and mean time to repair (MTTR)? Is there a more affordable provider offering the same service? These are all questions that should be considered before committing.

4. Converge Your Phone and Data Networks

Businesses with high-speed, reliable internet (like fibre optic) can save money by converging their phone and internet networks into Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). VoIP allows you to make unlimited calls using your SIP and internet connection.

If you’re looking to cut IT costs, talking to iTel is time well spent. We’re proud of our ability to design streamlined solutions for even the most complex networks. Let’s connect.
